Fall 2009

Baby Girl is here!! Mackenzie Marie was born 2 weeks ago today, September 22nd. She entered the world at 12:21pm; weighing 7 lbs 8 ounces and was 20 inches long.

All in all, the c-section delivery went better than expected. The Dr.'s went in with many concerns however we Dr. Leary did a fabulous job. Mackenzie needed some extra oxygen at birth so she was taken to the neonatal unit. They had told us that she would probably be on a CPAP machine until Friday. However, by 7:30 Tuesday (only 7 hours after birth) Greg went down to visit her and found the machine was gone. They said she had been breathing on her own and didn't need any assistance!! I was up in my room but I can remember Greg almost running into the room to tell me that the machine was gone. On Wednesday, I was told that I could nurse her. This was very exciting! They also told us that if she managed to eat without problems, that she would be able to join me in my room. Between the bottle they gave her and our first attempt at nursing, she did GREAT! We arranged for Thursday to be a full nursing day. I was going to go down and visit every 3 hours. When we went down at 9:00am, the nurse asked me how I felt about bringing her back to my room. I said I was excited to. I didn't realize that she ment right then. Within the hour, Mackenzie was discharged from neonatal and transferred to 6 Center!! We didn't call and tell people that she had been moved. We let them find out the surprise as they came to visit. What fun that was!! :)

On Friday, Mackenzie and I got to go home!! To our surprise, someone decorated our front porch, thanks Nani and Papa. Grandma Vedders picked the boys up from school, not telling them that we were home. That was a wonder surprise!!

Now we are all home and adjusting to life as a family of 5!! The boys have been a wonderful help to Greg and I. I feel as though our family is pretty wonderful!!

5 days off

This summer has been a little different. I have gone from working full time to working only 2 or 3 days a week. Even though it's been tough sometimes, the boys and I are really enjoying staying home together. As an example, here's how we started today.

Nathaniel: "Mom can I have breakfast?" Me: "Sure what do you want?" Nathaniel: "Since we are home, I'll have mini-muffins." Me: "What do you mean, since we are home. That's what you have in the car out to CLC." Nathaniel: "Yes, but today I can eat them at the table." (That made me smile)

Zachary then follows with.... As mommy is dropping stuff (way to much to mention this morning) Zach says "Mom let me get that for you. I'm gonna be your helper today." Me: "You are, thanks buddy." Zachary: "Yep because you can't bend so well because that big belly you say is my sister. See mom, I don't have a big belly. I can bend easily." (Zach now shows me how he can bend) Me: "Well thanks Zach I need your help." Zach: "As usual." (Gotta love 5 year olds) :)

Now what person wouldn't enjoy a day that started out that way. :)

Now onto status updates:
Nathaniel: Nate is 37 days away from being an 8 year old. He's enjoying his two days of summer camp however he is sad that he has to miss the "cooking" day on Thursday. Nate and Papa have been taking Saturday golf lessons. He has really enjoyed them. Both boys got to have a "Papa Special Monday" this summer. On Nate's Monday, Papa took him to play 9 holes. They made it through 6 1/2 before they were tired from the 6,000 steps they had taken. :) The boys also get 2 "Nani Special Days." The first day was a water day with a water machine outside. The 2nd is coming up soon. What is Nate looking forward to? Aug. 1st. Why? Because he's going camping with Nani and Papa.

Zachary: Zach turned 5 in June. He is enjoying his days at "Preschool Summer Camp" (his name). His favorite days are water days. That boy is NOT afraid to get wet!! Zach has also been joining Nate and Papa during golf lessons. He's a little young but enjoys trying the activities. Papa took him mini-golfing on his "Papa Special Monday." I was told her got a Hole-in-One!! On Zach's 1st "Nani Special Day" Zach helped with the water machine. Who knows what will happen on the next special day. :) What is Zach looking forward to? Starting at Knapp Charter. Why? Because "it's my brother's school."

Baby Girl: She has a name however I can't post it until after she comes. She will be here September 15th @ 7:30 a.m. We are working on her room. For more information on baby girl, visit www.b2b09.com. Since she has her own site, I won't post much for her. :)

Memorial Day Long Weekend

What a weekend. We started the long weekend by having a Yard Sale on Saturday. Between myself, my mom, my sister and my mother-in-law, we were very successful. We got rid of some unneeded items and put some cash in our pockets to pay for upcoming expenses. Dad and Greg were great troopers through the whole thing. They carried all the heavy boxes and tables. They also loaded up Dads truck and Greg's PTCruiser to take items to be donated. Thanks to everyone that helped for making the sale a success. :)(OH, Dad, Nate and Zach even got out to play some golf in the middle!!)

Family updates:

Nathaniel: He's just about to complete 2nd grade. In cub scouts, he has now earned his Wolf Badge. When we found out that we were having a girl, Nate got tears in his eyes and said "I'm gonna have a sister!!". He's going to be a WONDERFUL big brother!! :)

Zachary: He's a week away from being 5 years old. He went to his 'testing' at Knapp Charter and is very excited to be entering the Young 5's Program in the fall. When Zachary found out we were having a girl, he started doing a "happy, jump in circle" dance at CLC on the playground. Now he kisses my tummy and says Hi to his baby sister. :) He's excited to be an AWESOME big brother!! :)

Baby Girl: She is 21 weeks gestation. At the 20 week ultrasound she weighed in at 20 ounces and was moving all around. She hasn't started constantly kicking me however I am starting to feel her a little each day. We go to the Dr. again on Wednesday. I'm sure she's going to be a FUN little sister!! :)

Has it really been two months??

While updating the layout look (bye bye snowman), I realized that it had been 2 months since my last post. Wow. So much has changed in 2 months. During this time,

Nathaniel: He had a wonderful Spring Conference, followed by a nasty 'bug' that kept him down for almost a week :( and developed a "ready for spring" attitude. He wants to be outside as much as he can.

Zachary: He has really developed a positive attitude towards school. He can write his name and enjoys writing 'letters and notes' to everyone.

Both boys have shown excitement with finding out that they are going to be BIG BROTHERS!! As of today, I am 10 weeks into my pregnancy. Besides having to give myself insulin shots 3 times a day and go to the Dr. every week (if not twice a week), everything is going good. I go to the Dr. tomorrow where they will try to hear the heart beat. I have had 3 ultrasounds thus far and all is well. At 6 weeks, the heart beat was 128 and at 8 weeks, the heart beat was 188. Soon more updates about the baby will also be available at www.b2b09.com. Check out the site now to find out how we told our family and friends we were expecting. :)

That's all for now. It's time for my 9:30 snack and shot, then I'm off to bed.

Happy New Year

Even though we are now 15 days into January, I thought it would be better late than never to write a New Years post.

The Holidays went by very fast. Christmas Eve was a little different than in years past. Greg, the boys and myself stayed at home and celebrated life as a family. With a few bumps in the day to get through, we enjoyed making cookies and opening gifts that the boys had made us. Christmas Day was very fun. We started the day with a wonderful visit from Santa!! After opening many wonderful surprises, we headed over to Nani and Papa's house where we had Christmas with them and Heather and Stephen. Around lunch time, we headed back home where we had Christmas with the Vedders. Everyone came over to house and we enjoyed a ham dinner with many fixings.
Friday was a day of playing with new toys and running to the story to exchange just a few odds and ends.

New Years was the best!! We went bowling with Nani and Papa. Aunt Heather, Stephen, Grandma and Grandpa Sheller and Carol also joined in on the celebration!! Upon arriving home, we let the boys stay up for a bit but then made them go to sleep. At this point in their lives, I don't think that seeing the "ball" drop means much. So we set the DVR and showed it to them the next day. No matter if they were awake or sleeping, the New Year would still come and it would be 2009 when they woke up.

I believe that wraps up most of our holiday season.

Happy 2009 to everyone.
